Athletenexus Partners with The Crafted Athlete to Develop the Complete Athlete

Recruit. Develop. Prepare.
At AthleteNexus, we believe that helping an athlete reach the next level is about more than finding a school, securing an opportunity, or earning a scholarship.
Recruiting is only part of the journey.
The next challenge is preparing athletes to succeed once they get there.
That's why we're excited to announce our partnership with The Crafted Athlete, founded by Dr. Rico Hall, a player development and mental performance professional with experience across professional and collegiate athletics.
Together, AthleteNexus and The Crafted Athlete will work to help athletes develop not only as competitors, but as students, leaders and people.
The Next Level Requires More Than Talent
For many young athletes, getting recruited can feel like the finish line.
It's not.
Once an athlete enters a college or professional environment, the expectations change.
There is increased competition. More pressure. Greater accountability. New teammates. New coaches. Academic responsibilities. Social challenges. And, for many athletes, the experience of living away from home for the first time.
An athlete may have spent years preparing physically for that opportunity.
But are they prepared mentally and personally for what comes with it?
How do you handle not starting?
How do you respond when your performance isn't where you want it to be?
How do you deal with failure?
How do you maintain confidence?
How do you balance academics, athletics, and relationships?
And perhaps most importantly:
Who are you when your performance isn't going your way?
These are the areas where mental performance and whole-athlete development become essential.
Meet Dr. Rico Hall

Dr. Rico Hall brings a unique combination of experience as an athlete, coach, mental-performance professional and organizational leader.
His career has included work across the NBA, Major League Baseball and NCAA athletics, partnering with athletes, coaches and organizations around performance, development, leadership and organizational challenges.
His work encompasses:
Player Development & Mental Performance
Team & Personnel Strategy
Leadership & Organizational Performance
Performance Strategy
Player Assessment
Draft Preparation
Coach Development
High-Performance Environments
Dr. Hall is also the founder of The Crafted Athlete, where he works with athletes and organizations on performance strategy, player development, mental performance, and organizational alignment.
His philosophy extends beyond simply helping an athlete perform better.
The goal is to help athletes become better equipped for the journey.
From Player to Performance Professional
Rico's own journey gives him a unique perspective.
His path into professional sports began with basketball. He played college basketball at the University of South Carolina Aiken before continuing his education and eventually playing professionally overseas. He later earned a doctorate in Sport and Performance Psychology.
That journey eventually led him into professional sports, where he was able to combine his experience as an athlete with his education and passion for helping others perform at their highest level.
In a 2024 feature from the University of South Carolina Aiken, Hall discussed his path into the NBA and the importance of relationships, leadership and perseverance throughout his career. His work with the Dallas Mavericks included supporting athletes with mental and performance challenges while also collaborating with coaches and front-office personnel. You can read more here.
His experience is a reminder that there isn't always one straight path to the next level.
Sometimes the route changes.
The goal doesn't.
Developing the Complete Athlete
This partnership is built around a simple belief:
An athlete is more than their performance.
AthleteNexus focuses on helping athletes navigate their pathway to the next level through recruiting, development, mentorship and opportunities.
The Crafted Athlete brings an additional layer of development focused on the mental and personal side of performance.
Together, we want to help athletes develop:
Mental Performance: Confidence, focus, preparation and emotional control.
Resilience: Learning how to respond to setbacks, failure and adversity.
Leadership: Communication, accountability and the ability to positively influence others.
Identity: Understanding that your sport is an important part of who you are—but not the entirety of who you are.
Balance: Learning how to manage academics, athletics, relationships and life.
Performance Under Pressure: Developing the tools necessary to perform when expectations are high and circumstances are difficult.
You Are More Than Your Sport
One of the most important messages we want athletes to understand is that their identity should extend beyond their sport.
Your points don't define you.
Your ranking doesn't define you.
Your scholarship doesn't define you.
Your playing time doesn't define you.
And neither does one bad game.
Sport can teach athletes incredible lessons about discipline, teamwork, failure, leadership and perseverance.
But ultimately, the goal is to use those lessons to build a better life—not simply a better résumé.
Preparing Athletes for What Comes Next
Our goal through this partnership is not simply to help athletes get to the next level.
It's to help them be ready for it.
Whether an athlete is:
Pursuing college athletics
Transitioning from high school to college
Competing professionally
Moving to a new country
Returning from an injury
Adjusting to a new team
Dealing with increased expectations
Trying to regain confidence
Or simply trying to become the best version of themselves
The mental side of development matters.
Because the next level will challenge more than your physical abilities.
It will challenge who you are.
Recruit. Develop. Prepare.
We are incredibly excited to partner with Dr. Rico Hall and The Crafted Athlete as we continue expanding what AthleteNexus means by athlete development.
Our mission is to help athletes navigate the entire journey—not just the recruiting process.
Recruit. Create opportunities and help athletes find the right pathway.
Develop. Build the skills, habits, and mindset necessary for long-term growth.
Prepare. Equip athletes for the challenges that come with the next level.
Because getting the opportunity is only the beginning.
The next level starts with developing the whole athlete.
